Volunteering in SMA

There are many great volunteer opportunities in San Miguel, and we're involved now in a few interesting ones which provide amazing benefits to the community. Jovenes Adelante - supports local high school graduates "first to college" with scholarships, mentors, laptops, financial assistance, counseling services, and a whole range of ongoing support throughout the student's career through university and beyond. The program has been going since 2001 with a great success record, and it is very competitive and merit-based so students enrolled with Jovenes Adelante are extremely motivated and well-supported. I'm doing a mentorship with a young student entering University of Guanajuato in Architecture and Historic Preservation.. www.jovenesadelante.org Feed the Hungry - is a nutrition program supporting local underserved schools in the campo (rural areas around San Miguel). There are about 30 participating schools being served, and each one now has a kitchen and staff that coordinates with Feed the Hungry to send food and other supplies as needed each week. We help out at the central warehouse each week packing supplies that go out the the schools. Biblioteca ESL - The local library, the Biblioteca, here in San Miguel offers a number of educational, music and cultural programs. Suzanne is volunteering here once a week assisting with a structured English program, mostly for middle schoolers and also a few adult students.
