The Alborada

A major festival in San Miguel every year is the Alborada, celebrating St. Michael Archangel, the patron saint of San Miguel. A week long of public events including parades, processions, dances, music, fireworks, etc. The main event occurs early Saturday morning (Oct. 3) at 4:00am in the Jardin, where a battle reinactment takes place between St. Michael and the devil. Actually, fireworks are shot across the plaza as if in battle, sometimes into the crowd. We haven't attended this spectacle yet, but are seriously thinking about it this year. But daytime and evening events this week have been wonderful, including Ballet Folklorico dancers last night, a local troupe from Casa Cultural here in San Miguel.
