Musica Mariachi y Boleros!

We've had a fun, musical week this week... attending two wonderful shows: One featuring Boleros (Latin romantic ballads) and one featuring 3 premier mariachi bands. The Boleros show was at a small music club here, very intimate setting probably less than 20 people in the audience. Yala Torres was the key performer - fantastic emotive voice for this type of music, and also a virtuoso on violin jazz/klezmer/gypsy improvisation which lends itself very well to Boleros. The mariachi concert was at our local Angela Peralta theatre. A very different musical experience, but equally exciting and wonderful. Amazing vocalists and musicians performing many traditional mariachi songs, and some not so traditional (Beatles, Sinatra, Frankie Valli, etc..). This is part of life here that we love so much, being treated to amazing musical choices every week, and all within easy walking distance from our house!
