Mujeres del Viento Florido

Once a year corresponding to the Spring Equinox, a concert is held in the canyon of El Charco del Ingenio. This year, we attended for the first time and it was an incredible experience at dusk in the canyon. The musicians were an indigenous all-women band from Oaxaca "Mujeres del Viento Florido" (Women of the flowery wind). About 8 musicians playing sax, trombone, tuba, trumpet, clarinet. Wonderful traditional tunes from Oaxaca plus a few waltzes thrown in. The venue in the canyon is not for the feint of heart.... walking in there over the boulders is very tricky and finding a spot to sit in the cliff edge is treacherous. BUT totally worth it! An amazing place we've hiked through many times, but even more magical to soak in music and sunset on the Spring Equinox.
