Kayaking on Presa Allende
We kayaked early this morning (before the heat) with the Audubon Society Mexico, out on the Presa Allende, our huge local reservoir fed by the Rio Laja. It's a beautiful, peaceful couple of hours, paddling along shady submerged river banks, seeing local fishermen with gill nets, and LOTS of migratory birds. A few of the interesting species included Wood Storks, American Avocets, Night Herons and the raptor CaraCara. The Audubon Society of Mexico maintains a boathouse on the Presa with about 20 kayaks, and takes groups out about once a week. We did it last Fall and loved it, so were happy to get back on the water today. Great group of people too!
