Hipico Otomi - Equestrian Club

One of the lesser know attractions in San Miguel, but a truly amazing place to visit a few miles out of town, is the Hipico Otomi (Otomi Equestrian Club). It is considered the top Equestrian center in Mexico, and one of the top in North America, hosting international events including the annual Otomi Grand Prix. Today on Mother's Day we decided to go and watch the "qualifying" event for the Grand Prix, which was fantastic. Hundreds of beautiful horses on jumping courses with fences up to 5' high. The place is way out on a cobblestone and dirt road seemingly in the middle of nowhere, and suddenly there's hundreds of cars, expensive horse trailers, and huge beautifully maintained grass jumping courses. Hundreds of riders in the finest riding gear, and obviously a ton of money involved. We saw two helicopters arrive while we were there dropping "guests" off to watch the events. Great experience and quite a spectacle to watch!
